Nadir Godrej to Step Down from Godrej Properties Board as Part of Group-Wide Succession Plan
Group-Wide Leadership Transition Announced
Godrej Industries Limited, along with Godrej Agrovet Limited and Astec LifeSciences Limited, on April 13 announced a series of leadership changes as part of a structured succession plan. Pirojsha Godrej has been named Chairperson Designate and will assume charge as Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group and Godrej Industries Limited effective August 14, 2026.
Nadir Godrej, Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group, will retire upon turning 75 in August 2026, stepping down from multiple boards. He will also step down from the boards of Godrej Industries Limited, Godrej Agrovet, Godrej Consumer Products, and Godrej Properties at that time.
Nadir Godrej to Become Chairman Emeritus
Nadir Godrej will transition into the role of Chairman Emeritus. Considering the vast contribution of Nadir Godrej to the growth of the company, the nomination and remuneration committee and the board of directors also approved the appointment of Nadir Godrej, as the Chairman Emeritus of the company, with effect from 14 August 2026, along with Adi Godrej.
Pirojsha Godrej's Continued Leadership at Godrej Properties
Pirojsha Godrej will continue to serve as Chairperson of Godrej Properties, Godrej Capital, and Godrej Ventures. Under his leadership, Godrej Properties became India's largest real estate developer by sales in FY21, a position the group said it still holds. In FY25, Godrej Properties achieved record ₹29,444 crore in pre-sales, leading listed developers that year.
Broader Godrej Industries Group Context
Godrej Industries Group includes five major companies in consumer goods, real estate, agriculture, chemicals, and financial services. The transition had been foreshadowed in the Godrej family settlement announced in April 2024, which said Pirojsha would succeed Nadir in August 2026.
The transition comes two years after the 2024 split of the wider Godrej family interests into the listed Godrej Industries Group, led by Adi and Nadir Godrej and their families, and the unlisted Godrej Enterprises Group, controlled by Jamshyd Godrej and Smita Crishna and their families.
Supporting Leadership Changes
Burjis Godrej has been appointed Chairperson of Godrej Agrovet and will join the Board of Godrej Industries Limited as a Non-Executive Director from August 14, 2026. Vishal Sharma, CEO of Godrej Chemicals, has been appointed chairperson of Astec LifeSciences with immediate effect. Arijit Mukherjee, currently COO of Astec LifeSciences, will be appointed executive director.
